I gone by a couple, which are similar, but I have no idea where they came from. They are:
If you don't create your reality, your reality will create you.
or the similar one:
If you don't create your reality, other people will create it for you.

Here's another one of my favorites, which for writers and most people and professions, means a lifetime:
"Amateurs work until they get it right.
Professionals work until they can't get it wrong."
Once again, sorry, I don't know the origin.
