River of Stones - Jan 13th

Watered-down late afternoon sunlight
too weak to cast my shadow.

I loved the book! I finally put in down around 12:30 AM and picked it up early this morning and finished it. You are a very talented writer and storyteller. I can't wait for the next book.

Gosh Mario - I haven't even had time to respond to your last message (I will - there's a funny story) and you've already finished my book!?! I am SO glad you liked it - especially since you mostly read science fiction. Thanks so much for the kind words. As for the next novel - I am hard at work on it, but it took me 7 years to write the first one so don't expect another one soon!

Take Care.

Sorry! No pressure. I didn't know where you were in the process. I guess I'll just reread it a few times in between. It's like a movie. You pick up something you missed the first time through. Meanwhile, I will try to write a bit on my own. My goal is to write a coherent short story that I can submit to someone and not get a form letter rejection (a few comments on what to do better).

Curious what your funny story is.

Take care.

I'm glad to hear you are going to work on writing some fiction! But try not to think overly much about publication - I always sit down to write with the hope I can be true to my characters. It may sound crazy but I worry most about disappointing them - I am after all their only chance to exist! And I think it is important to go easy on yourself and just try to write to the very best of your ability with the skills you currently have. I tell myself that at least 3 times every week - no lie!

As for rejection letters - I still get form rejection letters! It's just part of the job.

My favourite times as a writer are when I lose myself in the work and forget about time passing and the world I am creating becomes real to me. It is a magical feeling and that is what I wish for you to find.

All the Best!

I was finally able to get through your blogs back to the beginning (November 2008). I especially like the Confessions From the Desk and Musings From the Desk. This blog is fine. I don’t think you need a web site. I’ve tried writing and sticking to it about every 5 years. Now that I have the time (retired), hopefully this time it works. I didn’t realize that “real writers” were as frustrated to get words down as much as I was, regardless of desire. I’ve copied a number of past prompts from your blog (since you’ll be going back to once per week) and will alternate exercises with “A Writer’s Book of Days”. Hopefully I can keep up the 30 minutes per day that I've started and then expand it. You’re helping a lot of people with your blog. Glad I found it through The Writer magazine. Thanks

(That was funny about the Hanger.)

Take care.
